Western Wisconsin Tobacco-Free Alliance, is a tobacco prevention Alliance that covers seven counties across Western Wisconsin. Our Alliance is one of many across the state of Wisconsin that is funded by a grant through the WI Tobacco Prevention and Control Program, which works to prevent and reduce the death, disease and health care costs caused by commercial tobacco use.
Statewide, the initiatives of the TPCP program and local Alliances have lowered youth and adult smoking rates, reduced illegal sales to kids, empowered local advocacy and reached out to many populations.
Through strategic planning and hard work, TPCP has achieved additional significant successes, including the passage of the statewide smoke-free air law and the statewide cigarette tax.
This program uses a comprehensive approach to effect change both in individual attitudes and societal norms. Key components include focusing on:
- Youth prevention
- Community education
- Reducing tobacco-related health disparities
- Protecting people from secondhand smoke
- Treating tobacco addiction
** When Western Wisconsin Tobacco-Free Alliance references tobacco, we are referring to commercial tobacco and not the sacred and traditional use of tobacco by some Native American communities.**
