On December 8th, 2023, it was announced that Wisconsin and 32 other states and territories finalized an agreement with JUUL Labs for $435 million. This agreement was a result of a two-year bipartisan investigation into the e-cigarette manufacturer’s marketing and sales practices. Wisconsin is to be allocated more than $14.7 million as a result of this settlement.

The American Lung Association recently released their 21st annual “State of Tobacco Control Report” this report evaluates states and the federal government on the proven-effective tobacco control laws and policies that are necessary to save lives. This report allows the states and federal leaders to see what they need to do to eliminate death and disease cause by the use of commercial tobacco products.

The Western Wisconsin Tobacco- Free Alliance recently held a Youth Tobacco Prevention Poster Contest, where a total of 21 poster submissions were received by high school and middle school students. This contest gave students across the Alliance counties the opportunity to creatively raise awareness about the resources available to help individuals quit tobacco use. 

After careful review, three standout designs were selected as winners from each of the two age groups. The winning posters will be displayed throughout the Alliance counties over the coming months, in partnership with local community organizations.
