State of Tobacco Control Report

The American Lung Association recently released their 21st annual “State of Tobacco Control Report” this report evaluates states and the federal government on the proven-effective tobacco control laws and policies that are necessary to save lives. This report allows the states and federal leaders to see what they need to do to eliminate death and disease cause by the use of commercial tobacco products.

The American Lung Association assigns letter grades, A through F, to state and federal policies best proven to prevent and reduce tobacco use. In this years report the states with the best and worst policies to prevent and reduce tobacco use are highlighted, which helps to find dramatic differences between the strengths of state’s tobacco control laws. The new report also shows steps that have been taken at the federal level to prevent youth tobacco use, including new proposed rules to end the sale of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars and new action from Congress giving the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority over tobacco products made with synthetic nicotine.
